As the Deputy Home Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high standards of care and smooth day-to-day running of the nursing home. You will support the Home Manager in managing the home, providing leadership to the care team, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and delivering person-centred care that enhances the lives of the residents. You will deputise in the absence of the Home Manager and ensure the home is a welcoming, safe, and caring environment for residents, families, and staff.

Job description

  • Assist in the day-to-day operational management of the nursing home, ensuring that all services comply with regulatory and organisational standards. 

  • Lead, mentor, and support a multidisciplinary team of nursing and care staff to ensure high standards of care and efficient service delivery. 

  • Oversee and monitor care planning, risk management, and the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care that meets each resident's individual needs. 

  • Ensure the home operates in full compliance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) guidelines and relevant regulations. Maintain and review care documentation, ensuring it is up-to-date and aligned with care standards. 

  • Assist in managing the home's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources while maintaining high standards of care. 

  • Identify training needs within the team and ensure staff are well-trained and knowledgeable about best practices in elderly care and dementia support. 

  • Act as a point of contact for residents' families, building strong relationships and ensuring clear communication about their loved ones' care. 

  • Ensure health and safety protocols are adhered to, maintaining a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. 

  • Support recruitment efforts to maintain a high-quality team and assist in developing retention strategies to reduce staff turnover.

  • Investigate and manage any complaints or incidents, taking appropriate action and ensuring lessons are learned to improve service quality.

Essential requirements

  • Nursing Qualification (NMC Registered): Must hold a valid and up-to-date NMC registration as a Registered Nurse (RN/RMN/RGN).

  • Experience in Elderly Care: Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a nursing home or care home setting, preferably in a senior/leadership role. 

  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.

  • Knowledge of CQC Standards: In-depth understanding of Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and requirements in the UK. 

  • Excellent Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with residents, families, and staff effectively. 

  • Person-Centred Care Approach: Passionate about delivering compassionate, person-centred care that respects the dignity and independence of elderly residents. 

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to manage challenging situations, including staff issues, resident care needs, and operational challenges. 

  • Organisational Skills: Strong time management and organisational abilities to handle multiple tasks efficiently. 

  • IT Proficiency: Comfortable using care management systems, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software for record-keeping and reporting.
